Jesus Son God

PartVIII

Deny Ourselves; God will fill us with His will and desires.

Our experience of Jesus in our daily life is in proportion to our giving of ourselves to Him. This is the most important aspect of our spiritual life. Last week Br Aby sent a reflection on what St John of the Cross has said: “If you do not learn to deny yourselves, you can make no progress in perfection.” By denying our own flesh and desires; God fills our heart with His Will and desires. Jesus himself denied himself on the Cross as a divine libation to the glory of God. The more we are allowed to advance in spiritual life the more we empty ourselves and Jesus fills this emptiness. Then Grace will work in us, as St John the Baptist said: ‘He must grow greater and I must grow less.’ John 3:30 Always we must advance in humility, repentance, with strong conviction and commitment to His Divine Will. ‘Yes, I will go further: because of the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, I count everything else as loss. Phil 3:8. This was the life of St Paul -growing in faith and knowing Jesus and the Heavenly Father. Knowing Jesus has a great meaning of keeping a loving personal relationship with Him in the Word of God. That is the  Truth and it is eternal life. “And eternal life is this: to know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”. John 17:3. Jesus himself says that the way to know the true God is through His only Son, Jesus Christ. The knowledge that the Father and Son are inseparable One, brings us eternal life.
