Part 50
The False Prophets
Lord, let us proclaim the unadulterated Word of God, which is truth and Life.
2 Peter 2:1–2 (NJB): As there were false prophets in the past history of our people, so you too will have your false teachers, who will insinuate their own disruptive views and, by disowning the Lord who bought them freedom, will bring upon themselves speedy destruction. 2 Many will copy their debauched behaviour, and the Way of Truth will be brought into disrepute on their account. Many teachers or gurus will approach us and teach us about different elements of our daily lives. We've learned that Jesus is the Way and Truth, so we should proceed with caution if they disturb us. They may come from various backgrounds and hold distinct spiritual views. We may meet them at a social gathering, a spiritual gathering, or even personally. We must distinguish them based on their own words. When we listen to their teachings rather than those of the Catholic Church and the Charism we follow, we are ignoring the grace we received from Jesus. Then we will not be benefited in both ways and will be rejected by the Holy Spirit.
St Peter explains to us how our knowledge of God dries us: 2 Peter 2:17–18 (NJB): 17 People like this are dried-up springs, fogs swirling in the wind, and the gloom of darkness is stored up for them. 18 With their high-sounding but empty talk they tempt back people who have scarcely escaped from those who live in error, by playing on the disordered desires of their human nature and by debaucheries. Here St Peter is explaining how our springs of Living Water dries up. John 4:14 (NJB): but no one who drinks the water that I shall give will ever be thirsty again: the water that I shall give will become a spring of water within, welling up for eternal life. This is the spring where they will dry up in our spiritual lives. So these teachers will cloud our minds with their false teachings to contradict our true teachings that we received from our spiritual father, Br Victor, and through Brothers. Their teachings are hollow words; they may not have knowledge of the Scriptures, and the unadulterated Word of God. 2 Corinthians 2:17 (NJB): 17 At least we do not adulterate the word of God, as so many do, but it is in all purity, as envoys of God and in God’s presence, that we speak in Christ. The true believers will worship in Spirit and Truth (Word of God) John 6:63 (NJB): It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh has nothing to offer. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
